Art
or art as therapy has been a concept to me since I was very little. One
very special day I discovered what Art Therapy actually was and since
then have been truly inspired by the creative process and it’s healing
powers. Art Therapy uses creativity, materials, and exploration to
inevitably discover self-truths and identify feelings when words
aren’t enough. The American Art Therapy Association describes the
process of Art Therapy as: Art therapy is a mental health profession
that uses the creative process of art making to improve and enhance the
physical, mental and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. It
is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic
self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop
interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase
self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight.
I
